Meet Mike
Mike Morrice is a long–time social entrepreneur, community organizer, and civic leader. He grew up the middle of three brothers on the West Island of Montreal and went to high school in Newmarket, Ontario before moving to Waterloo Region to study at Wilfrid Laurier University.
After graduating with degrees in Business and Computer Electronics, Mike spent over a decade supporting businesses in Waterloo Region – and across the country – to save money and reduce their climate impact.
Like so many Canadians, Mike grew increasingly frustrated over this period by federal inaction on the most significant issues of our times – from the climate crisis to wealth inequality. Seeing the need for federal leadership on these issues led him to enter national politics as a candidate for MP, choosing the Greens because they allowed him to stay true to his values and his community.
In 2021, he became the first Green MP elected in Ontario and served as the Member of Parliament for Kitchener Centre until 2025.
In Parliament, Mike earned a reputation for working across party lines to get tangible results. He secured tens of millions of dollars for affordable housing in his community, and played a pivotal role in enshrining the Canada Disability Benefit into law—a historic $6‑billion increase in support for people with disabilities living in poverty. He secured more amendments to the legislation than every other MP in the country combined, demonstrating his ability to build consensus and deliver change.
Mike has experienced first-hand the people power that Green MPs bring to Parliament. Now, he’s running to lead the party, to fight for regular Canadians and help build the movement necessary to confront the billionaire class.
Until recently, Mike served as a Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, served as the party’s critic for Housing and Disability Inclusion on Shadow Cabinet, and was on the Kitchener Centre riding association’s executive. He has already been confirmed as the Green candidate for MP in Kitchener Centre, has continued to knock on doors, and has stayed connected with his community following the last election. This includes serving as an Executive in Residence with Capacity Canada, a role focused on providing mentorship to Boards and leaders of local charities and non-profits in Waterloo Region.
Mike lives in Kitchener’s Cherry Park neighbourhood with his partner Blythe and their family, firmly grounded in the community that continues to shape his commitment to public service.
